That would get my attention too, and not in a good way. Since I once worked in heart research and later was an EMT, I am very familiar with death. I was in charge of the electronics and many times turned it off, causing the death. In every case, death was a relief, for the patient (usually comatose) and family.

When I was riding, I split lanes often. I only did it when the traffic was moving fairly slowly and I only exceeded that speed by an amount that allowed me to stop in time for an quickly opened door. In my car, I always make room for the riders to pass me. Some are crazy though.

That is a terrible thing to experience, Ridercam. Let's hope the 'jitters' will only mean that you are suitably cautious when riding and driving, but be mindful that you may experience PTSD symptoms over time. I recommend leisurely rides on quiet country roads to rebuild confidence in the man/machine interface. It works for me after shit happens.
Avoiding motorcycle commuting seems like a sensible approach if you are keen to live longer.

I am determined to reset the bike (Vilia)into best possible working order. New tires, brakes, shocks refreshing, head adjustment, brighter bulbs and total fluid changes are in the works. I know this bike and I are bonded for nearly 3 decades - she has taken be many places and will take me many more. The weeks it will take to restore her should help as well.

Other than witnessing a person dying, horrifically, I don't see where this incident could be anything other than vehicle-assisted suicide. Sorry for your mental distress, ridercam. I don't think you need equate this event with your riding style.

+1 . . . but let's be careful out there---a lot more so than this foreseeable casualty.
