R75/5 throttle grip tube with good gear & planetary...

Post by dwire »

OK, while watching what I think is an insane sort of bidding war on ePrey, I would like to inquire about a good condition "used" right control throttle tube and its matched planetary gear/chain/cable-pull. I need nothing but the tube with good gears and the planetary for the perch. While I would need to double check, my planetary would seem to be OK, but I'm not 100% on that- and as well feel it likely both parts would last better if they were the pair that wore together. (Those that wear together, stay together... :-) )

What I do know is the progressive teeth on the throttle grip tube stripped out in a bad way at a bad time in a bad place - and my 70/71 R75/5 is marooned until it may be replaced.

Let me know if these sorts of parts are out there anymore at a reasonable price. Ten years ago, I bought a NOS perch, with lever and hardware (everything but what is now broken, but...) for less, YES, less than what folks are bidding up an old used assembly (well that admittedly has the two pieces I currently need, but is 99% of what I don't need and it was rode hard and put away wet IYKWIM...) Well, perhaps my notion of the value of such things is a bit dated... (bet my NOS speedo/tach is worth over $500 by now at that rate!)

Any help appreciated!

Huckys sells new cam gears for $25.60 and twist grips $31.

Hey thanks Tim! I guess that put me in the "do-do bird" category for not ever thinking anyone but the all-mighty BMW AG might be able to provide (or the sad "ePrey" route these days, for when I started with these bikes, there used to be hundreds of pages of useful parts for my old '71 R75/5's; now there are currently 6 and the prices are absurd by comparison - in only five years or so!)

Leave it to me to "Not see the forest for the trees in front of me..."

There are a new batch of assemblies on ePrey, while all I need are the parts noted above and I likely should just purchase the new parts from Huckys, I'll wait a couple days before giving up on perhaps saving a bit of money - for right now that's something I have really none --> (money that is... :-) )

Again many thanks, I feel dumb for not checking them. May you have a happy Holiday season and I hope you are able to spend it among family friends and loved ones!

Regards,
Douglas

Glad to help. All the used ones I have replaced were on their last legs, so to speak. Sometimes Huckys parts are more expensive than BMW, but these two are a bit cheaper. It pays to shop around!
