I test rode a K1600GTL a few days ago.
No, I don't want to buy one. But still, the combination of fast and quiet was almost scary!

Re: HO! LY! SHIT!!!
My brother just purchased a K1200, and it is indeed scary ! Thankfully it came with the "box of rocks" BMW option or you wouldn't even know the thing was running.

As one that checks my local Craig's list for BMWs on a daily basis, the K bikes are the best deals out there. They don't seem to hold their prices as well as the boxer models. I see relatively low mileage 1200cc bikes go for under 3K.

I think it's a 2002 yellow "Checker Cab" model. The thing goes like stink, but it's like straddling a moose. You don't ever forget you're astride a heavy bike.

Re: HO! LY! SHIT!!!
• Have you researched what it takes to repair the standard "box of rocks" noise inside one ? The only part not needing to come apart is the front forks! It's way over the top involved, simply to remove 0.015" of bearing thrust.
• It's a characterless appliance.

Re: HO! LY! SHIT!!!
That's a shame. My first bike was a K100, and those earlier Ks were wonderful. Usually the guys who thought they were appliances only thought so on principle, as they'd never actually ridden one.

Re: HO! LY! SHIT!!!
I bought my 1991 K75 standard in 2004 because it was cheap, I intended to flip it when summer came. I started riding it and I'm still riding it. If it is a appliance, it a old Maytag that just keeps on going
Re: HO! LY! SHIT!!!
You're very correct, "appliance" can cut 2 ways. Some people really need and want a standby "run about" where you simply push the button and go.
