Frame Engine Mount Weld Failure!

Post by Deleted User 61 »

These pictures were posted on the R65 forum. I thought it warranted spreading the word. There could be 1 or 2 other frames out there like this!

He is pretty sure it has been like this as long as he has owned the bike. He spotted it while performing his 3rd oil change.

It should be a much better handling bike once fixed!

Hmmm...and I thought this thread was about heads? Makes it kind of hard to search for something in the future... Just sayin!

Wow! Thanks...I like it when the subject matches and I don't have to guess. How 'bout "my two centavos"?

That one doesn't bother me nearly as much (not at all, actually).

I found out why that phrase grates on my nerves so, when I saw a clip someone posted of a FOX "news" program, and one of the broadcasters used it in their "banter".

Or maybe I'm just getting old. Probably should start pulling my pants up...

That was a really bad weld from the factory. Not enough heat and missed the target.
The weld was laid on top like it was squeezed from a tube of toothpaste.

Neither one. It was the Heidi effect.

Heidi effect:
Peripheral effect which occurs when Heidi, the quality manager's appealing secretary, strides purposefully across the factory floor to summon one of the supervisors to an emergency meeting about a quality problem of which her boss has suddenly become aware.

Or maybe the Hans effect.

Wolfgang the welder can's keep his Hans off Heidi.

PS I'd get that bad boy back into place and braze it into position!

Engine Mount Weld Failure. Maybe not Hans' fault ?

Post by vanzen »

Could it be possible that an owner of this bike
neglected to maintain proper torque of the engine mount fastener
i.e. it was loose, possibly for some length of time, and the resulting vibration / stress ...
might be the source of the cracking / weld failure ?

I have witnessed similar results of continued vibration / stress.
