A good friend passed away earlier this year, and I'm selling his beautiful 1967 R69S for his widow.
He had a long history with the bike, having first bought it c. 1974 and sold it a few years later. It spent many years in a barn in Mississippi, then was sold on and completely restored by Craig Vechorik ("Vech") at Bench Mark Works in Sturgis MS, c. 2006. My friend encountered the bike by coincidence, recognized it and persuaded the owner to sell it to him in 2019.
The bike runs well and has no apparent issues. I contacted Vech about the restoration, and here is what he said (references are to the previous owner, Dave):
-------------------------
He got All the painted parts professionally repainted, and the fenders and tank hand pin stripped by a guy that I used for striping. He brought the complete engine, gearbox, and final drive to me. He "helped" me, and I tore it all down, sent the crankshaft out and got it rebuilt, sent the cylinders and new pistons out, got the cyls silicone carbide wall impregnated after they were bored, sealed up and glass beaded ALL the empty engine, trans and final drive cases, put it all back together with all new bearings and seals. I also installed new rims, and stainless spokes and trued the wheels. I also put the bike completely back together, as you see it in the photo, when Dave was present, to help. I owned Bench Mark Works then, and my business was not only selling BMW parts, but I also restored complete bikes for customers. Dave was a buddy, so I did all the work for free, he paid for all the parts. LOTS of parts. I used Stainless Steel metric bolts and nuts everywhere on the bike. All new rubber bits, new wiring, both seats new, new handlebars, bar end signals, all new exhaust, everything, the works! I installed a 12 volt alternator, did every thing first class. He spent at least 10K on it. Dave got it back running, restored and beautiful.
-------------------------
Vech confirms that the speedometer was rebuilt and odometer reset during restoration; the bike now shows 3422 miles. While it's possible it was reset since then, most likely that's the number of miles put on since restoration.
The bike is located in Plano Texas; inspection is welcome. Asking price is $20,000. Please contact me with any questions.
