Hi All,
Boertjie here (Johan) from South Africa, think I last posted in 2011. Life happened...divorce, sold the bikes etc.
But hey, we are still alive!
Think I saw a couple of member names I remember. Hope you are all in good health!
Sadly my mentor/work colleague/second-dad passed away from covid a few years back. He got me into the Airheads and he had quite a couple of them, after he passed the bikes went to the kids.
I saw his old red RS up for sale on FB market place and immediately got into contact and bought it. Now...the bike stood for 8 years under an open type shed on the side stand. Needles to say, been busy stripping, cleaning (lots of elbow grease) and replacing bits for a few weeks now.Funny how memories returned when working on these bikes..
Got the service parts and replaced the oil filter. Measured the canister, 1 x shim, and the expensive big o-ring (the complicated stuff)
Cranked the engine and oil start dripping from the rockers after a few seconds so I assume the oil pump is good. However, the oil light stays on after cranking for 10 seconds. Next step is to remove the oil pressure sensor and test it.
Hopefully I didn't miss something on the oil cooler side, I have no knowledge regarding oil coolers.
If there is something I miss please shout out.
Appreciate!!

Re: 81 R100RS Oil pressure issues
Welcome back
Can't say I've ever timed it with a stop watch but it does seem to take at least 10 secs of cranking after an oil change for the light to go out and that's spinning the engine over with the plugs out.
