Any impressions on K75s ?

This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

Sort of like the milkshake machine I saw at McDonalds one day many years ago. It was having a very bad day. It cured me of their "milkshakes" forever.
My first bike was a K100RT. Lots more fairing than a K75 ever had, and it really wasn't bad to get apart. Lots of fasteners and such, but fairly simple.

My impressions:

Even though it's lighter than the K100, it still feels heavy because it feels top heavy. This isn't bothersome when you get moving, but it doesn't feel like a boxer.

Definitely soul-less. Most of that is do to the electric motor nature of the power plant. It has very linear power without lumps or valleys, and is much smoother than the K100. This leaves it with (almost unbelievably) even less "soul" than the K100.

Just as bulletproof as the K100. They come very cheap if over 60k miles or so, but they're really just broken in.

I have more than once heard ones that had a belt whine that sounded like a jet engine. They aren't supposed to sound like that, so if you find one that does, something is wrong. Might just need a new belt, but I don't know - could be a bearing.

The K75 isn't known for baking the rider with engine heat the way the K100 can.

I find the K75S to be a VERY good looking faired motorcycle, but not quite as good looking as a K100RS or R100RS. Comes in a strong third though. The least interesting thing about it is that it just works.

This is the one I've been looking at , probably expensive by US standards but not by ours .I probably won't buy this one ,I'd like to but its 1200 miles away .I'd prefer the red they originally came out it as I like being seen .

Yeah, it doesn't look bad, but the red looks WAY better.
I don't recognize that windshield either.

The K75 was my first BMW; back in the early 90's ( why does that seem so long ago?) a roomate had a K100rs.

As Mjr Softie mentions, they are top heavy. Mine was blown over by wind while on the centerstand in the garage. My buddies K100 was pushed over one night, again on the center stand, w/ the resulting body/faring damage representing a larg-ish insurance claim.

As for riding, they have little in common w/ boxers but their two wheels-more of a crotch rocket w/ quick, smooth acceleration. The monolever ride was different ,though I cannot quantify that observation. Really fun to carve corners.

I will admit though it rode well, I found it to be visually... unappealing.

Its something else to play with in the shed, at least.
I haven't ridden a K75 but have ridden a K100 many years ago. It was a rough example, but it was very smooth and revved like a turbine. Very different to the Airheads.
I saw go for it......lol

I think the K75S is a handsome machine. The engine is quite automotive in design. My understanding is that they are very reliable. I've got a friend who's been riding one for decades with mucho miles. There can be problems in the drive train because the service manual doesn't mention some lubrication procedures that are important. I rode one for a good long day, and enjoyed it. One thing I found is that they handle horribly on gravel. At least the few I tried didn't like getting off the pavement. I wonder why.
Any and all disclaimers may apply

How would you compare one to a K100 Irz ? Riding at slow speed ? Basic slow speed around town use ? I'm sure a K75 would be great on the highway but that tends to be a small part of my normal riding .

It's funny, the K100rs was purchased specifically for a ride from S. California to Alaska which never went beyond the Pacific NW... at the time I was riding a ratted Suzuki 550 & we were mostly urban riding; I feel the K was probably better suited for touring.

I bought my K75 for general messing around on rural two lanes and & for that it was great-I went through 2 rear tires that first season! The PO had sorta "cafe'd" it, part of that was a Corbin gunfighter seat which effectively lowered the bike enough to almost flat-foot it; as mentioned these bikes are top heavy because they are a bit tall. Honestly, in heavy traffic or a lot of stop & go type riding, a K can be a bit of work

Also as mentioned, that top heavy feeling completely disappears w/ a twist of the throttle!
