Carb air intake tubes...repair??

Just wrap it with tape and be done with it for now. I see no reason for using silicone glue and don't even like the idea.

Don't use the accordian type hoses, as the inside surface must be smooth. The flow should be as laminar as possible, or tuning difficulties will occur.

Air leaking in ahead of the carb just causes tuning trouble, but not a reliability problem.

Motorworks in England sold be two bits of radiator hose when I ordered carb intake rubbers.

Within weeks the rubber was gone from the inside and all that was left was bare canvas.
Carbs fell off so you couldnt miss it.

BMW Oz doesn't do spares , so I grabbed a bit tube from the tank filler from a Jap boneyard, like I said previosly .
Been there 10 years and still as good as new, compared to the ten days the radiator hose lasted.

Radiator hose might have a degree of petrol resistance,but they are a service item.
What I need is something that stands up to the crap they sell in Oz in place of petrol.
And the tank filler hose is designed to do that for the life of a car.

RTV seem to set up OK overnite. Remounted carb and test run this morning. Ran great. Seem to seal up air leak. No racing idle.

Later, after cool down noticed repair area kinda gooey mess. Shizen...hope this stuff not being sucked into cylinder! Took carb off. Couldn't see asny traces of the stuff in intake and bike ran great this a.m. Hmmm...not reallly confident if this going to work. Back to drawing board. Pushed take off day back a day...buddies were also having some issues and 1 day won't hurt anything we all agreed.

Found old rad hose off my Kubota tractor in the junk pile that is a perfect fit so...chopped it up as sqaure as possible and give it a go tomorrow. Not like the idea as concerns expressed by others. I also have a piece of old exhaust pipe that fits nicely inside old rad hose. Maybe use as a "liner" inside rad hose?? Don't know...see what we can come up with tomorrow. My friend suggested also we clean up damaged intake piece and use JB weld on it instead of RTV red sealant. We'll see.

Just need a few days out of it. Called Max BMW in New Hampshire USA saturday (closest dealer to route - only 200 miles east of where we're going) and they have the part. Great guys..they suggested they would send the part to motel/campground or whatever) and we could pick it up there. Fantastic...never thought of that. We mainly camp but one night in motel is OK too. So I just e=mail pickup address to them Mon and they'll o'nite the part.

Go for a piece of the gas tank filler hose if you can find the right size.
Radiator hose will get all gloppy inside from the gasoline.
You will have a handfull (a BIG handfull!) of even more mess.

My bike has rubber mounted Dells, using radiator hose, works well and has been doing so for some time!

Have you seen this recently, or are you referring to rubber rad hoses of yore?
the materials used nowadays are much better.

I have bought marine fuel fill hose by the foot for under ten bucks. Has held up well for the last 3 years.

Make sure you get the stuff WIHTOUT the wire in it.
