Could anyone who has installed a large tube swing arm on a /6 bike let me know what they did to properly relocate the brake light switch. I scored a large tune swing arm in great shape off ebay for 30 dollars and plan in installing it as a winter project along with some other mods. Pictures would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Ken
Large Swing Arm Brake Switch Relocation
Re: Large Swing Arm Brake Switch Relocation
Hey...!
$30 is a great price for a Big Tube with the shaft. You did good!
Some time ago, I posted a how-to here explaining the entire operation for moving the brake light switch, in order to install a big tube swing arm. If the old archives are complete, you can find it there, complete with photos. If it's no longer ther, I might be able to repost an explanation but the technique is straight forward.
You'll need to use a cut-off wheel to remove approximately 1/2" of the /6 switch perch off, redrill the perch to accept mounting bolts for the switch and then bolt the switch in place.
The fun part is that then you'll have to bend up an aluminum arm, that will bolt to the brake arm/actuator to push in the switch post. The entire operation takes about an hour if the frame is bare and the installation can be very cleanly done if you're crafty and have a vice.
It's much harder to describe here than to show you, so look for my old post from three or four years ago. if you can't find that, I'll try to find my old photos or take some new ones and repost my solution.
PS: The swing arm swap is one of the best ways to tame the handling of your old /6 but if you want an even better handling bike, I can help you stiffen you frame to near race spec. Contact me off-board for info.
PPS: I just located the photos that go with the how-to and I'll try to repost that info within the next few days if you need it.

If the revolution was televised, Americans would watch "Dancing with the Stars".

3-4 years ago will be in the Original Archives (not yet online). All we have right now is the most recent archive, which is about 1 years worth of material?
Re: Large Swing Arm Brake Switch Relocation
Oh...
I guess that I should have known that but I don't spend much time around here anymore.
OK... I'll get the text rewritten and then repost the information to the forum.
In the mean time, heres the finished bike with mods galore:

PS: How come I cant post an avatar? Is that disabled too?
