ignition switch wire/tab matching.

Post by jimpic »

R80RT 1986. I am reconnecting ingniton wires to switch. I have one green, one grey and two red, one of the red has 2 red wires in the connecting tab . Haynes manual shows 2 grey wires on wire diagram and only one red. The tabs on ignition swith are no 15, 56, 58 and 30. The 30 number is tab is tough because it sits between two tabs and am not sure which is the one. I blew a fuse in my first attempt to figure this out. Thanks in advance.

Hello. The figure 15 for Bosch denotes Switched downstream of battery, 56 headlamp, 58 side markers etc and 30 input from battery- direct. The smaller of the two red wires is for the Voltmeter I think. Hope this helps. Cheers

Haynes shows 2 gray wires at terminal 58 to reflect model differneces. Its showing difference from R80 naked vs RT model. You should have only 1 gray and it goes to terminal 58

Double red wires (with 1 spade connector) goes to terminal 30.

Green wire goes to terminal 15

Think other (smaller) red wire is for voltmeter and goes to terminal 56 (switched power i.e. voltmeter only comes on when ignition switch is in "park" or "on" position...not on when ignition off)

Then again I could be wrong...my memory fades after 6pm....good luck
