no oil to rocker after helicoil

Post by p1800cpe »

I need help! I had to install a helicoil in the front top left stud. After I put it back together I am not getting any oil to the rocker. I am wondering if the oil would be able to pass through the new threads? Any help would be great of if anyone else has over torqued and pulled a stud. Thanks, tom

You will need to drill to the oil pathway, through the helicoil.

That's what they do. Sounds bloody sketchy to me, but I'd love to read the finer details of how to do it again.

Isn't it a matter of getting the helicoil to the proper depth? I've not heard that you have the subsequently drill or notch the helicoil for the oil flow.

The secret is in being able to centre the drill bit and not have it go spinning around and around and around the helicoiled hole.
Sorta think of Steve Martin in 'The Jerk'
Anyone know the secret? :geek:

In this case, Frog was using a threaded insert. It is one piece rather than a spiral, like a Helicoil.

does any one know if the oil passages are in the same location from 1978 to 81 . I would hate to drill in the wrong spot. Thanks, tom

It tuned out that the guy i used to drill the helicoil used epoxy and covered the oil port. I drilled it out and is all good now. Thanks for the quick replies. Thanks, tom
