How the heck do you remove the bearing from a R100R wheel

Hi, Just got a R100R front wheel. Sealed bearings. Want to remove so I can clean the filthy wheel. how do you remove them? There's no "lip" to knock them out from the other side.

Do not skip the heating of the hub, or you may ruin the hub.

Snowbum mentions "cold pressing" of the bearings and warns against it. I wonder what he is referring to in this aspect. The factory never heated a hub. They cool the bearing set in dry ice and it falls into place. I wonder if someone called that "cold pressing?"

Never try to put a bearing in place on one of those older BMW wheels with everything at ambient temperature. Your wallet will be sorry.

It doesn't really matter how one gets the temperature difference, heating or cooling. I not only heat up the hub, but put the bearings in the freezer for 15-20 minutes. They really do fall into place then.

If you can not get dry ice try this... get some crushed ice place it in a small steel pot, with bearing pour
a small amount of acetone over the ice. that will give you some shrinkage.

I get heating and cooling to get the bearing in. What I wonder is, is there a trick for REMOVING IT? I'll heat the hub, but do I need to buy or borrow a blind hole bearing remover?

Both my manuals say DO not heat the hub with a torch. Use a HOT-PLATE,
Not any pictures but I'd guess after the hub is hot, a blind bearing removal tool would be needed.
The bearing is not likely to fall out as assembly not only requires heating the hub to 100C but also freezing the bearing (in your freezer!)
Do not handle the bearing with bare fingers.
Either time!!
PS. Do you know if it a TYPE ! or a TYPE 2 wheel? procedure is different for each of these.

They say don't use a torch as most don't know to keep moving the heat around so as to not over heat one area. I like mapp gas, but sometimes use acetylene.

We had a puller that would gently and evenly pull on the bearing as the hub was hot.

I changed the front wheel bearings in my ‘88 RT a few years ago. I borrowed a blind hole bearing puller from Autozone. As I remember, the bearing puller didn’t exactly fit but I did manage to get them out. The new ones just tapped into place, didn’t use any heat to get them in or out.
It’s a simple swap. There’s no magic, and it’s not rocket surgery.
