I welded my crack George, nearly two years ago. It hasn't cracked again since.George Ryals wrote:ME, borrow a GoPro camera, mount it to watch the crack and go ride your favorite curvey road to see what is happening. You will probably see the crack breathing as you go through left right curves.
The crack was on the opposite side to the seat latch. The crack was basically at the toe of the weld, on the cross-member side of the weld. The weld was unremarkable.
I was surprised to see no evidence of significant movement.
Given the time span that it was left 'cracked', and the terrain on which I often ride, I'd expect to have seen something.
Both sides of the crack were sharp cornered, and basically touching.
So I can only say there was no compression of the joint, no parallel sliding forwards or backwards.
Only possibility is parting at the crack, which would leave no physical evidence, but would not likely come back to rest (crack closed) and not leave some sign.
Anyway, it's a bit of a non event imo.
