Are you being intentionally obtuse?
Earlier, Major Softie wrote:Assuming that the reason 50 - 60 year-old bikes fill their slingers in fewer miles than 5 - 10 year-old bikes is because of the use of detergent oil is faulty logic. It is equally possible that the cause is that they are 50 - 60 years old instead of 5 - 10 years old.
Apparently I am having trouble with your logic. Just call me HAL.

At the beginning of this, Duane talked about how the bikes behaved when they were 5 - 10 years old. That was in the 60's.

Just open the pod bay door, will ya?

I'm sorry Major, I don't think he can do that.

Thanks everyone I am glad I asked and I tend to agree with Duane...when the internals are renewed, and scrupulously clean and the slingers are empty I will look for a proper weight non-deturgent oil of high quality and with ZDDP and change it often. I remember doing oil changes as often as 1000 miles on some customer's bikes, and especially at the end of the season. It makes sense to me that the proper oil for this bike in 1959 would still be the proper oil today. When my research is done on what that oil is I'll post my findings (give me a few months.)

Oh goody! An oil thread! (just kidding...)

Image Daisy, Daisy
Give me your answer to
I'm half crazy
Over my love for you! Image

;)

edit: Hey! it only took me 31 years to come up with a name for my bike! "Daisy"!

Actually, it goes: "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do. I'm half crazy, all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage. There won't be a horse and carriage. You'll look so sweet upon the seat, of a bicycle built for two..." (or something like that) I learned something new recently, if you change all the letters of "HAL" by one, it spells IBM. :ugeek:

I knew the one about HAL & IBM.

As far as the lyrics go, that's what I get for not looking them up before opening my big keyboard!

I does make it look like "Daisy" would be a better name for one of Chuey's bikes though, doesn't it?
