Sleeping bags ? What do you use ?

This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

I see what you mean , very good , not too expensive for what you get ...but the temp ranges are totally unAustralian ! We don't do that ! The coldest I'd ever see would be -6 or -7 ,there are colder spots but i don't go there !

Rated to -10 might seem like overkill for Oz, but the -10 means you won't die if it's -10, verses being warm and toasty on a frigid wintry mountain. So, warm and toasty at -2-5 outside maybe? Being big and barrel, it allows more room for other stuff to...to keep you warm.
Last year at the Boxerworks Talbingo camp was ok, but it had clouded over and didn't get too cold on the Saturday night. I'm not sure how cold it was Friday night, but there was no way I was taking anything less than -10 up to the Snowy Mtns in winter.
i WONDER WHAT jEFF USES FOR THE aLPINE rALLY? ...oops
Steve ,
the down bag i linked to has these temperature specs :

minus 9°C (Lower Extreme, European Standard), 10°C (Comfort Men, ES), Mountain Equipment recommended sleep zone = 25°C to minus 2°C

Does that sounds about the same as yours ?

I reckon ,I'll buy this one and a light synthetic one for in between .The one I have is very much a sub tropical job .

Just had a look in the cupboard at the bags we have.

Those specs far exceed my small bag specs...mine is a true summer only bag. In fact, looking at the specs on the bag, it's not down, but "tecsoft fibre 100G/SM", so synthetic. I usually use it as a blanket more than a bag.

Bought at half that price, and used more by the kids than me, but it is the one I'd take away most of the time.

The down bag I once used is far past it's use by date.

OK ,I'll go for a lighter bag again .I might sound like I'm completely stuffing around but it's 30 up here now and i have serious trouble visualising the kind gear to buy for the cold when I'm hot !

I'm dead scared of buying something too hot for me .Cool is good .

Military surplus wool blanket and a cotton sheet.
If it's colder than all that – the (insulated) riding suit stays on.

Sibbo

I have a One Planet down filled bag. I'm not pushing any particular brand here but they have a great website that fills you in on what the best bag is for you.

See below.

I sleep with Big Agnes!

I bought a Big Agnes brand down bag with the integrated blow-up mattress and I love it.

You cant slide off the mattress because it slides into the bottom of the bag, the blow-up mattress is insulated, so you stay warm when it's cold and the bags good down to freezing.

Add in the fact that it'll compress down to almost nothing and it'll do it for me!

I guess that Diane would qualify as a sleeping bag.
