There really is a 5X.9.
That is just a sick joke to play on mechanics. At least now I know. Who thought of making two thread pitches with the difference being just one tenth of a millimeter?

If you think that is sick, if you work on a late 60s British bike, you can find CEI, BSW, BSF, BSP, USS and SAE threads, on the same bike.
No metric though.

Well, at least they didn't mix NPT and BSP.

Hey Hools, how goes the job? Have yer staked that bearing yet?

They float on fluid those cranks ya know, except for the three points of 'close encounters' of the crank and bearing'
I think so anyway....
I could be wrong.

Not me! As far as I know, there are no pipe thread nuts.

BSPP ---- British standard parallel pipe threads used on petcocks and bulkhead fittings use nuts.

1/4 bsp x 19 threads come in tapered and parallel. I was given 2 petcocks from a Matchless Mattisse for an aluminum
fuel tank i built and my thread gages didn't have 19 tpi. Had to do some research on that.

G'day Jeff. No I haven't staked the bearing yet!!!! I've been working out an alternative to staking and or screwing in the 'stake' and I reckon I'm on a winner!!!!! I'm going to mill up a 4mm stake with a square end on it that will locate (with a little judicious filing!!) in the nearly square hole that was left after the original stake was punched out. With the top of this device just beneath the surface of the bearing carrier, I should be able to restake and secure it. Whew!! Apart from this litle hiccup and getting two new small end bushes fitted to conrods and honed, everything is set to reassemble over the next couple of weeks. I'm hanging out to take him for a good squirt!!! Cheers, Mark!!!
