Since I had a few hours to kill before having to be at Devonport for the boat i decided to head west to check out the 'historic' township of Stanley (nestled under the picturesque 'Nut')... It was pretty bleak so i just stopped for the obligatory and headed off again.
Back east along the Bass coast...
Then the boat back o/night.

Got home at 7.45am the next morning. Rode approx 1800 kms. The bike is OK, not a bargain as i'd hoped, but still: it was another fun adventure, had a punt on the 'market', rode some great roads, saw some magnificent country, caught up with an old friend, and got to keep the bike - priceless!

What an incredibly beautiful place Tasmania looks to be.

Yeah, Tassie is one wonderful place. It's like stepping back 15yrs in time. The ppl are (mostly) friendly, the food is (generally) cheap and just about always really really good - esp the seafood (they have oysters to die for!), the accomodation is cheap and readily avaliable, the beer's very good AND it's a riders' heaven. What more can i say? These pics just don't do it any justice at all (i was more interested in my new ride).
The only real down side is the cost of the boat trip across. Although i returned in the 'shoulder' season it cost me $274 - $54 for the bike and $220 for me - and that;s for just a seat (they all it an 'ocean recliner' but it's just like a big plane seat). A cabin was an extra $70, and that;s to share (invariably with some smelly, snoring, suspect stranger). So, if you take your bike down it's like $530 return - not cheap, but jeez it *should* be done at least annually if at all possible.
I did 3000ks down there in a week with a bunch of blokes on all sorts of machines a couple of summers ago - magnificant! Can;t wait to do it again. So, ANY TAKERS for a summer jaunt?

Thanx for sharing! Sounds and looks like a perfect trip. Good luck with your new ride. Must get down under one of these years. Tasmania would be a must to ride.
