Great responses on this thread (of course!). I assume you've checked the fork tubes are within spec? Both round and straight before polishing? Having read up on the trueness specs I opted for new fork tubes and I've just replaced my fork tubes on my 1975 R90S with parts from Motobins and I'm very happy with the nice new shiny bits.
