I've been getting very nice results. He's right about leaning out the mains, I went from 155's to 140's. Not ready to go without the pumps like he does, mostly because I can't afford the richer slides and needle jets at this point.

I hope the bills aren't too extensive. I've had friends survive the accident only to be "killed" by the hospital costs and moving violation fines.
Yes, Fun knows his stuff. It's too bad things didn't work out better here for him; the place is poorer without his knowledge.

I wonder why he seemingly gets along well and is popular over on advrider, but here, it was catfight city?

I hope he is going to be OK. And that he has good medical insurance.

He has his moments over there too.

Sounds like a nasty hit he's taken. Sure hope he's ok.

Here in the USA, land of freedom, only the hyper rich have "good medical insurance". The rest of us have barely adequate (at best, if we're lucky) medical insurance.

# ribs, # scapula, # clavicle. I hope he doesn't get hayfever! That hurts!
Self employed without insurance apparently.

What might 4-5 days in hospital cost him over there?

$10k/day is not unheard of. Could be more, could be less.

Hopefully his motorcycle insurance will cover some of the hospital costs. Four or five days in the hospital will be ruinous unless he has insurance or a nice fat bank account.

That sounds like a good number, perhaps not counting certain specialists such as an ambulance, wound clinic, and rehab.

My brother, who has no insurance and no money got run over by a tractor with a scraper blade a little over a month ago. They had to go into his belly twice, once to repair internal bleeding and again to straighten out and remove a section of his gut. I'm guessing he spent a total of 7-10 days in the hospital, including some intensive care. His total bill to date is $140K.

He's looking at medical bankruptcy, or possibly a negotiated settlement with the hospital and care givers.

There is also a fairly unique Idaho state program called Indigent Services where the state evaluates his and his wife's earning potential, negotiates the hospital bill down to Medicare levels, and assigns a 6 year repayment program. If it goes that direction the State will eat the unpaid part of the bill after 6 years.

The purpose of the state program is to keep people working and off of welfare. Presumably, all things considered, it works to the benefit of the state and even to the benefit of the creditors because they will get more money than they might not get from a bankruptcy procedure.

I was a bit gratified that, though the hospital and caregivers were aware that my brother had no money, there were no noticeable deficiencies in care giving. Depending on your political and social points of view that's a good thing or a bad thing. Certainly, for many aliens and people who can't or won't work, druggies, and assorted social misfits who use hospital emergency rooms as their doctor's office, it's a good thing. For people paying taxes it's either a good thing or bad thing depending on their sense of social responsibility.

The best case scenario for my brother will be a 6 year agreement with the state where he is allowed to keep earned money to cover mortgage expenses, a vehicle to go to work with, and household expenses. The rest will go to the state.

Sorry to hear about fun's accident. I followed the thread over on ADV site.

Heard they are going to try and set up some type of donation site to help him with the medical/hospital costs.

Damn shame for the accident and the f#@$k'ed medical care system for most Americans at the bottom of the food chain who need it the most.

FUN, hope your recovery is quick and your back in the saddle soon!

My parenets where in a bad car crash in Idaho Falls back in 93. My father was killed and my mother was seriously injured. I flew down and arrived a day later. The fisrt thing the ICU nurse said to me after I had seen my mom was "You need to go down to reception and fill out a bunch of forms." Then she whipered in my ear "Don't sign anything!".

This was at a state hospital and the care was fantastic. They even put me in an empty room the first night as I had arrived late. Anytime my wife phoned, someone magicaly found me without paging.

After 4 days we where able to get an air ambulance down from Canada and fly her home. At no time did anyone come up to me with a bill. The bills did arrive in the mail over the next couple of months. Fortunatly thier vehicle insurance picked up almost all of them.

I hope that the care is as good today as it was back then.

Garnet, remebering my dad.

Here in the U.K. the National Health Service is often criticised, but I for one am very grateful for this institution.Saturday 2nd of July I suffered a severe injury to my leg--a badly broken femur.Within a short time an emergency helicopter arrived at the scene, also an ambulance, both crewed by Para-medics.I was taken to Swindon Hospital where the next day I underwent an operation in which a metal rod was inserted into the broken bone.Wednesday the 6th saw me going home-with crutches.I've had two more Hospital visits, and on wednesday 7th I go back in to have further surgery for removal of locating pins. All this treatment---and not have to worry about paying for it ! My best wishes to FH,I hope he makes a recovery to full health as quickly as possible,my thoughts are with him. Blue Skies,K.C. p.s. No,it wasn't a motorcycle accident which caused my femur break,Skydiving was the cause ( end of my free-falling I think).
