Riding on the other side of the road

G'day, The other blokes have come up with all the main stuff. I've driven around Europe and I drove from S.F. to Miami once. You certainly are safest in traffic (but that's not where the best riding is) and the most dangerous is out on open roads with no-one about (which is where the best riding is). It's very easy when making turns to head for the side of the road you would go to back home. I pretty much chanted to myself "(centre)Line on the left, line on the left" every time I turned a corner. It worked for me.

Here in Oz one of the most famous tourist drives is the "Great Ocean Road" along the south west coast of Victoria. It has large signs all the way along it saying "Drive on left in Oz" because so many tourists were causing havoc in rented cars. I wouldn't recommend riding it by the way. The scenery is nice but the riding is very ordinary: mostly 80kph, lots of towns and lots and lots of tourist buses. Do the California coast road instead.

I reckon your best bet is to find some friendly motorcyclists here in Oz (this forum would be a good place to start), talk them into going where you want to go and follow them.

I guess I'll need to work on hand signals that are rearview mirror friendly like so the heck down mate or what's the rush! when I come a-ridding to one of your posted events.
