I still laugh every time I think about it.

Re: Leaky carb bowls
When I store my Airhead I drain float bowls and the tank then put a cup of oil in it. I swish it all around and then let some of the oil into the float bowls before I turn off the taps. I really enjoy doing this, but I don't know why.

Thanks for all the good responses. I have it stopped for now (new gasket, soaked in gas, not greased yet), but it will come to haunt me, I'm sure. As long is it does that on the road with no smells in the garage I will live to tell the story. Otherwise my wife will use any sharp object she can lay her hands on ...
Some of the above is fact, some is fiction, some is my personal imagination and some is just simple truth. [me]

Gas will eventually evaporate and cause the gasket to dry up and become brittle and shrink, grease won't.

ZM, DID I really "hear" you say you STORED your Airhead? As in, not even occasional operation?
Like, MAN...that's not good for it at all.

Okay, my wife agrees with me that this was a confession. Are we correct?

Well I haven't put it in storage mode for a few years now. But I did for quite a while when I was riding other bikes like my Guzzi and R60. Fact is: it came out of a long sleep with very few problems. My secret is rotating the engine regularly with oil in the cylinders. Along with all of the usual AR Beemerphile process.Jean wrote:ZM, DID I really "hear" you say you STORED your Airhead? As in, not even occasional operation?
