Re: '77 R100RS
I know I'm venturing into forbidden territory here on "Boxerworks," but here goes.
Is there something you don't like about your K-bike? The R is a very different motor, and the RS is a VERY different seating position. Are you sure this is something you want?
Both bikes are very appealing, but for very different reasons. It's important to be sure you really want that very different motorcycling experience.

Re: '77 R100RS
My strategy is more about funds accumulation lol
...I got the K for a good price, now have it on sale,
with plenty of interest & a few serious potentials, then this guy asks if I want to do a swap....obviously condition
dependant I might do,..you'd think the RS would bring more at sale if it's tidy enough,..see I'm wanting to
buy a 7x7 Colourbond shed for the other bikes,.. so this just may help pay for most of it,...

That's something that only people closer to your location could (relatively) safely speculate on.

There weren't, as I understand it. That happened in '78. The snowflakes could have been retrofitted.khittner1 wrote:I didn't think there were snowflakes on '77s.

I'm not sure...from some pictures out there, it seems it's both ways. But it's hard to tell about the provenance of the pictures:khittner1 wrote:I didn't think there were snowflakes on '77s.

Re: '77 R100RS
I've seen 77 RS's with both i.e. wire wheels and snowflakes. Mine had snowflakes. The VIN# on my bike indicated it was manufactured in 11/76 and was considered a 1977 model. There was an original Bill of Sale from the dealer (McBride's in Toronto) in the documentation. I'll ask Klaus (the new owner) to see if there is any indication on it that specified snowflakes or wire rims from the factory order. Would be interesting to know. I never looked at it. It was noted as 1977 R100 RS on the BOS.khittner1 wrote:I didn't think there were snowflakes on '77s.
At a vintage rally that I attended a few years back, I did meet a fellow who had a 76 RS with wire rims in same colour scheme as mine (think the silver/blue was only one available in 76 and 77). He said it was one of the very first RS's produced and the first one in Canada at the time. He ordered it and took delivery in spring 1977 and was the original owner. He had a ton of miles on it but it was pristine. He was from Toronto area. He said it was a 1976 model. It had the sport 3/4 seat as well.
Maybe the wire/snowflake rims were a factory option at the time?

Re: '77 R100RS
Right. The 77RS was supposed to have snowflakes, but there were issues and they switched back to spokes. The 77RS rims were blue pinstriped to match the bodywork. And I believe only the early ones had the 40mm pipes. Mine has the 38mm. They all had the 40mm carbs.
Re: '77 R100RS
I'm with khittner...I think 77s did NOT come with snowflake rims. Wire is the right thing for a 77.
Maybe a LATE 77 was fitted with cast wheels...? Moose, you got a serial number?
