You need to measure the amount of gas in the bowl after allowing to fill and then turning the petcock off. I forget the numbers, and it depends on the 32/40mm carbs, but it's something like 22-24mm in depth measured in the center of the bowl.

That's where I'd look to be sure one side is not really running richer than the other.

Kurt, I am interested in the exact numbers? Can you confirm them 22-24mm for the 40mm Bings? In my leaning out experiment I am at 155 mains and needle on 1st (without hesitation stumbling pinking etc) so when I change to 152 mains I can check the levels again using your method.

Ok, I read snowbums article: 28mm is the number for the 40mm Bings.

Kurt, I am already done searching, did you see my earlier post? Killing the engine after a 3min 4000rpm ride revealed perfect spark plugs ... I was barking up the wrong tree!
