I agree on both counts Major.
I wish I was more aware of it before I bought the bike.
The whining of the motors are annoying as well....
Saying that, I do have a failed spare modulator,I can use for fault finding and/or spare, if needed, in the future, which is a bonus.
But if it does completely fail, it will have to come out.....
With all this, there is nothing in the BMW range now that I would rather have than my R1150RS. The R1200ST is too ugly...lol
I might have to look at something lighter now I'm getting a little older.

About 75 pounds lighter....
WAY smoother than 1100's and 1150's....

Nope, not even seen one in the flesh.
I heard they were quite a bit lighter than the 1150's. I don't need another 15 hp....lol
My RS is too pretty to sell......:0)

I gave up the linked brakes by isolating the rear brake from the servo - lost ABS at the rear only ( I think ) and have a normal, unassisted rear brake system - one thats responds the same if the bike shuts down - which, before the modification, got me in trouble about a year ago.

My '07 GS had the best brake-system EVER! It had ABS without the servo assist, and was semi-linked: the lever activated both brakes but only gave a fairly light amount of power to the rear. The pedal activated the rear only, and could add more power to the rear than what came from the lever if so desired. A lot of owners didn't understand the linking though and wore out their rear pads WAY too fast. Bleeding was identical to an old-fashioned, non-linked, non-ABS system: pump fluid out until it runs clear, make sure to top-up the reservoir. No funky tools or procedures needed.
Best of all, it was easy to use and did its job really well.

Yes, +1 on the R1200R. I looked at a 2009 that came up for sale last year only a few miles from my house. One owner, no miles, super clean, optioned to the gunnels, and fairly priced. I didn't pull the trigger because I had my heart set on a 2008 or 2009 1200GS, which I eventually found, but I still wonder if the 1200R was actually the bike to buy.
