I wonder what they used on R65s, with the 3 1/4" x 18" front. I don't see any Conti Twin fronts in that size.

You are correct Duane. Oh, wait....
I believe the "correct" statement would actually be: there is no such thing as A correct, as there is no single correct.

Mitas are still making the Conti twin, which they now sell under their own brand name, and I think you can get an 18"front from them.

I do believe there is such a thing as "correct" for bikes of this vintage although, for sure, I agree there is no single correct. That's an important point. There are choices out there and I would say they're not strictly limited to Metzeler and Continental. Heidenau, for example, markets a tire with the "correct" look, at least to my eye, and the last time I had a look at the entire current Conti lineup I saw more than one model that I thought would "look" good on a /5 or /6. For some people, this is important. Personally, I want that look on my oldest bikes.

One of the big improvements over the last 40 years has been in bike tyres, that nowadays offer much better grip and stability than those generally fitted to BMWs then.

So if you are going to be using your bike rather than displaying it, I would fit good modern tyres as supplied by one of the Major manufactureres.

Well, manufacturers isn't usually the term usually used for it, but you do have parents.

Uh, unless you want to claim immaculate conception. . . . . . . . . .

Hmmmmm,

I'm afraid thinking about my parents "manufacturing" me in that way seems the exact opposite of "immaculate."

Somehow being born of a lustful no-holds-barred, sex crazed romp in the hay, until one's parents collapse in utter exhaustion, seems greatly preferable to an immaculate dictum.

And from your post it would appear that you feel the same way. ;)
