The wheel cleaners sold in auto-parts stores is phosphoric acid based.
You are admonished to NOT leave it on the wheels too long before you wash it off.
Carbs are not made of the same type "white" metal as wheels.
Use carb cleaner or Kerosene. (paraffin to you guys 'way-way down south, and across the pond)
