Since bike is still new to you, it could be an existing problem. I'm not sure that we've isolated it to fuel. It could be electrical. I'd continue to characterize the problem. Find a spot where it does it consistently and experiment, speed, handlebar position, idle mixture settings...
Does it seem to slowly die or just cut out?

It idles nicely when I sitting in neutral, settles down to 1000rpms as it should do but If I am riding along and come to a corner and have to pull the clutch to change down and slow to a stop well the engine just dies.
It also then starts better if I find the neutral gear than trying to start it if I pull the clutch in while in gear..

Any thoughts??
It sounds like the difference in whether or not it dies is in the clutch/neutral area. I would suspect the clutch adjustment. Also, I thought that 1,100 was the ideal idle speed so the engine gets well oiled at idle.

Good question for finding/discounting the cause of the stall. This is a flywheel bike issue too, as opposed to a clutch carrier, if I remember correctly?
No quite sure what you meant Jeff, sorry mate..
I think I know. The earlier /5, /6, and /7 airheads have a relatively harder clutch pull than the later ones. Those airheads have a very conventional automotive like setup. Later, I'm thinking around 1982, the clutches became a lot easier to pull. The clutch was changed up greatly and the new design is commonly called a "clutch carrier".

I've been into both kinds of clutches, but unfortunately my memory is too fuzzy to provide any details. There will be others here who can speak of them with clarity.

This started with the '81 models. The transmission input shaft also changed so this point in time is a "wall" that has to be understood when it comes to swapping parts...at least directly.

Holysmoke, yes it may well be an existing problem, one that has gone unnoticed until it was ridden and warmed up properly, something that I could not do when I got it home, anyway its just another issue to sort now.
Has far as electrics go I have replaced the old loom completely with a new one, and while doing that all connections were cleaned thoroughly PLUS -

New aftermarket diode board and mounting bolts were installed, new battery and start motor overhauled, new points, plugs, condenser, all new cables and as far as the flywheel goes I only removed the gearbox, cleaned and re-greased the spline, cleaned, cleaned and cleaned a little more.
New Keihan stainless mufflers, new seat cover, new front fork stanchions, new fork rubbers, seals and gaiters, new brake rubbers front and back, brake lines, brake bleed nipples and brake pads front and back, new light globes, new rubbery things replaced mostly where ever you look, sump gasket, new carby rubbers, jets, gaskets and diaphrams, new front tyre, new push rob tube seals and then barrels, pistons and rings, Have I missed anything else SteveD as we've both laughed at the endless list of stuff along the way ;)

Its slowly getting sorted, and hopefully from here on in they are only minor issues that raise their ugly heads..

Gidday,

Over through the hills this morning nice and early I went for another 100kms, it went lovely and I wound up the idle screws just a little more before I went and things improved.

Thar's sheep in them thar 'ills! Baaaa!

Not much left to do Grantly! A rwc and a K series ebay advert and away ya go!

Will you be up for a night out sometime after easter? We could put the bike in the middle of the circle and discuss the trials and tribulations 'til the bourbon runs out....or the red!

He went to Foo Fighters last night Jeff. I'm guessing he's stalled for the day! :D

Gidday,

Jeff, she went well yesterday morning, no stalling in corners / stop signs etc.

I had wound the idles up a fraction before I left plus I was bleeping the throttle a little more when coming up to these corners / stop signs etc..

Road worthy certificate tomorrow and then some rego at the end of the week :D she will be going on club plates at this stage..

Foo Fighters concert in Melbourne was GREAT!! a little tired today and the ears are still dripping a little blood
