On the road between Jamieson and Eildon there's some great vistas overlooking (a full) Lake Eildon (for the first time in 15 years?)...

Fryers Creek is ~25ks from Jamieson (spotted a couple of small trout here):
FYI, Steve: the Jamieson-Eildon road is a great, but somewhat demanding, ride - not something you'd want to tackle early after a hard night. The top (Jamie) end is particularly tight and unrelenting - something like ~25ks of back-to-back twisties. the surface is good/new but there's a bit of marbley gravel in places and plenty of leaf litter. This end is also pretty narrow and is mostly unsigned - but there's no doubting the terrain you're in, it just keeps coming. I've ridden it three times now since it was sealed. I think the Nth-South direction is my preferred approach - as you get the tough stuff out of the way first and can relax a little for the rest of the way. But don't get me wrong, either way is Fun! Fun! FUN! There are some good camping sites at the J end - ie The Pines and Big River - although they are well used during the busy seasons. Generally there's v little traffic - but you can encounter 4x4s and (usually only) camping trailers - it's not really suited to caravans and is signposted as such. In the times I've ridden it I've only ever seen one other bike (a trailie) and 1/2 doz cars. In short: I'd say DO IT! at the earliest opportunity!

Thanks for the heads up Pete!!DucatiPete wrote: The top (Jamie) end is particularly tight and unrelenting - something like ~25ks of back-to-back twisties.
Geez, I could have found myself on that road without any warning!
It's the highway for me!

Great pix. Thanks Pete. I've done it twice since sealing and yep, it's tight awright. Initially the edges were very slippery with the loose residual gravel from the new surface...much like the Falls/Shannonvale surface was. Sounds like it's a little better, but still some swarthy surface.
Cheers, Steve

That's now on my list for the next ride south. Thanks Pete.DucatiPete wrote: The top (Jamie) end is particularly tight and unrelenting - something like ~25ks of back-to-back twisties.
ps: I'd just like to announce that my first year of uni is officially over, after bumbling thru my final History exam today. I might add a yee-har and perhaps a woo-hoo to that, over the hottie and coldie sitting here on the desk.
Cheers all, and thanks for the help with the pre-emptive deletion of the year's accumulation of data from my poor battered brain over the weekend. Everything seems strangely fresh and new and it's a speckie day out there for a ride. I'm wondering now what all the fuss was about ....

A place I'm not familiar with: more information please!SteveD wrote: much like the Falls/Shannonvale surface was.
Re: RS 30th Birthday Party - Oz
The road from Falls Creek down to Shannonvale near Anglers Rest (BLue Duck Inn). It was sealed 2-3 years back, but was quite slippery and the edges were tall and right angled. Probably well worth a spin if not done, but I've only done it from the Omeo end heading towards Falls. I doubt it'd be as good going down hill.DucatiPete wrote:A place I'm not familiar with: more information please!SteveD wrote: much like the Falls/Shannonvale surface was.
