check the OIL in the engine, too!! is your battery charged? Air in the tires?
Get some NEW gas. This "new" gas is not much good after 2 years. Blend it off in your car.

It's OK, Jean - the tank spent the 2 years empty. It even got smoothed out and repainted last winter!

I drained the fresh gas I put in 6(?) weeks ago, yesterday, and put that in my car. The tank was FULL, and I needed to remove it so I could preload the steering head bearings a bit more. It was very twitchy when I rode it on that fateful day. It also wanted to fall into corners at slow speed. The bearings are new. I won't fill the tank until it is sorted, this time!
I have a very faithful Odyssey battery that I bought in April of '04. It has yet to refuse a charge, and starts the bike like a champ!
I checked the tire pressure 6 weeks ago, as well. But don't worry, I'll do it again!

And then it is wheelie city for Rob!

Yesterday went pretty well. I have everything back together, and I even shifted the box through the gears!

Now I have only to put a final nut on the shift linkage (SAE, & in a tight space - NO fun!), and put gear oil in the driveshaft & final drive.

Yes, yes, I will check the engine oil & tire pressure, as well, not to mention a final tug on all of the drain plugs!

42.8 miles and it is still running!!!
I only did one pass (2-lane) where I had to downshift to 4th. When I upshifted to 5th, the clutch slipped a little before grabbing completely. A bit more adjustment, perhaps?

It does need some carb balancing, as well. That is where I am headed, now, before it cools down.

Well done Rob! Got the wind in your face again. (you did have the visor up didn't you?)
3mm (1/8") cable freeplay at the handle bar lever is a good place to start.

That's fairly epic to get the bike running again, Rob. Well done!
