K75's can be had for not much in USA these days...and I'm jonesin' REAL HARD for another bike. Maybe once I get some bills paid down and/or find a better-paying job, I'll get me a cheep old 75 just to get myself back on two wheels. Another GS or something like that can wait a little longer.

On the reliability issue:

I was just talking with Snowbum a few minutes ago (his wife is singing in this afternoon's choir performance), and he said he's seldom seen a K motor that had to be opened up before 200k - 225k miles, and then usually just for a valve job. He's built a few K1xxx hacks. Try getting 225k miles out of your average Airhead before touching the valves. Water-cooling really does make a big difference in controlling wear, although you pay a penalty in weight and complexity.

Like I said: they just work.

Hmmm ,there's a negative ! I like to ride dirt a little bit and certainly to be able to if it's an interesting road .Engine wise , it seems that the K engines were the best BMW engineers could come up with and that had to be good !

Some people do make it work though .. this one seems to be great idea !

Good deal on a K75S ? BUY IT ! Great bike.

The ill handling on gravel / dirt, at least as per my experience,
will be primarily about the very street specific ergos of the "S",
handle-bars are much too narrow, suspension too short,
and standing on the pegs to shift weight as needed is horribly awkward –
Of course, ergonomics (and suspension) can easily be modified to suit yo needs.

On the street, though, it's a nimble cruise-missile smooth as a sewing machine blast of a ride !

I had a '86 k100rs for a year during my boxer RS's induced coma (that valve thingy)
and found it to be every bit as confident/competant on dirt/gravel as the boxer.
Usually always loaded for touring, yer just don't want to have to do suppin in a hurry.

Big pot holes are a nuther thing altogether

OK , good ! Wider bars ,a bit more of a sit up and beg position ....kinda like my ST ? The ST is happy on dirt , not too fast but she's Ok .
