Some of these pattern peanut heads are pretty thin, less than half as thick as OEM squared covers, and wont stand up to a fall of the side stand, never mind a decent off.

Without the dipstick how would one know just how much to fill? I think it is a "cool factor" from the prewar models.

Same as on the Oil Heads Duane. Keep the dipstick but only use it as that not for filling.

I think Duanes (valid) point is that, if you're going to take the stock filler out, why not simply put the oil in that hole... If you get a litre of oil with a spout (free), you can save yourself probably about €120 (or whatever that comes to in the currency of your choice).

Adding oil to an Airhead is easy with one of these screw-on twist valve oil spouts.

These spouts screw onto standard oil bottles and have a twist valve built into them that lets you regulate the flow of oil. They should be available at your local auto parts store.

I just use a gearbox oil container cos in the UK at least they come with 3" flexible spouts. Really good for carrying some oil on the road.
