Its more like bumping up to a fast idle. As a geocacher, I make U-Turns all the time - and I never put my feet down, that would be poor form.
Besides, here in Texas, there's all that cow poop on the road, and all.

That is exactly what Duane referred to as "classic symptoms for weak advance springs." It is very weird for it to be doing that with an electronic advance. I would definitely try running it on the points just to see. Maybe something has gone wrong with the electronic advance.
Taller Wider Bars For S Bike

Jean, I've done that mod on my '77S bike. I used K&N "Superbike" bars, lopping about 1" from each end. That gave me bars that are about 1 inch taller with about 2" more width. It made a lot of difference for me--more than I would have thought.
I wouldn't use the K&N bars again though because they are 7/8" diameter rather than 22mm. (I was younger and foolisher then, but I got away with it.) I have seen some aluminum "superbike" bars, made in Italy as I recall. That's what I plan to use if the need ever comes up again.

There's quite a few Ducati Monster bars that have a nice bend, both in steel and in aluminum. They are 22mm, but I don't know if there are any of the aluminum ones that are not the fat-in-the-middle type.

I have some 22mm bars that give me the same pull-back as using the bar-backs (which will go away), and are wider...I think they came off a /5 or /2...I'll give it a try this winter when it's too nasty to ride.
