Not really, Steve. The first thing I noticed on mine was that the holes for the pin spanner were elongated in the tightening direction and the chrome tubes were actually flared out where the caps had been screwed in. By an angry gorilla, I suspect. I exhausted all the usual possibilities at my place without success after trashing two pin spanners, including using lots of heat and 'Footprints' plumber's grips that chewed up the caps. I put them back together and kept riding, sans oil. Then, at Pete's place I took his suggestion and cut flats in the caps first. It took both of us with a big shifter and cheater bar to get them off.

The only reason I can think of for those caps to be so tight is that Ikon gets a lot more work refurbishing them. Ikon Albury, which trades under the name of 'Proven Products', quoted me $100 - 120 each to replace the seals, "if nothing goes wrong".

What is sorely lacking in this fiasco, is any direction given by Ikon. No directions of any description accompanying a seal kit.
No directions, heads-up, hints, re the removal of those retainers, even though I was talking with the guy who repairs/builds? them.
The situation faced by myself and Charlie would I'm sure, be encountered by many others.
Not really good enough, imo.

My options on Monday are, two complete new shocks, two new struts and use my existing springs and spring retainers, or parts to fix what I destroyed.
The bare strut option would be the cheapest I think.

Despite essentially being the same shock, I wonder if there's a difference between Koni and Ikon brands in their method of assembly?

Let's read these two sentences in "hipster". The first sentence would appear to a hipster fairly similarly as it does to most of us. The second sentence will need some surgery and some interpretation in order to understand how a hipster would perceive it.

I'm asking why he didn't say it was like. Stop there. The hipster sees that pretty much the same way you see it. Now, the word "rocking" - it does not mean something that bobs back and forth. Well, it does mean that to us, but to a hipster, "rocking" is not simply verbage - it is a VERB! Rocking means "to use" or "to wear"; as in "I'm rocking 20/50 Synthetic oil in my GS." or, "She was rocking a see through blouse with a frilly bra." (That's the "wear" part.)

So, if Me 109's second sentence, from the quote above, were read by a hipster, it would appear this way:

"I'm asking why he didn't say it was like using horse shit." In this case, determined by context (at least one would hope), "rocking" would be received as "using" as opposed to being understood as "wearing".

From where I sit, it looks like the only way someone could write that sentence and have it not misunderstood by hipsters would be to write "rockinghorse" as one word.

I don't understand why something as simple as a shock absorber can't be made serviceable. It's just a tube with some oil that passes through some holes.

More and more it makes less and less sense to rebuild anything. Just send it to the land fill and get a new one. How's that working for us?

A friend is going to help me install my Yamaha R6 rear shock on my CBR when the shock arrives. It is supposed to be the hot (cheap) set up for these little bikes. ($85 delivered) It certainly gives the user more options with high/low speed compression damping, rebound damping and preload.

My friend, who (apparently) is quite a bit older than I, reflected on how they used to rebuild shocks in the "old days".
They would drill a hole in the side, squirt out the old oil, shoot some new oil in, and then seal it up with a cork seal and a self-tapping screw.
He said that was before he had enough money to fill land.

We demand cheaper non-serviceable. (you might be able to service it, the other 99 can't)

My shocks were rebuildable before I got my paws on them. Now, they are repairable.
