I rarely check fuel consumption but recently did on a twisty mountain ride, well laden with camping gear: 6.24 L/100km = 37.7 MPG(US). I'm happy enough with that. My girlfriend's 1981 Suzuki GSX250 got 4.1 L/100km = 57.4 MPG(US) on the same ride. What I noticed recently is that touring costs me exactly 10 cents per kilometre for 98 RON juice (at current price). It makes trip costing pretty simple. YKMV
