Even some of the bikes get to slob about by the fire. Actually, Brother Ken's bike managed to get a hole in the sump in a creek crossing. It was repaired with a spoon and some epoxy, here being cured:



VW crank-cases are ritually combined with oxygen every year as part of the not-quite-legal fireworks display:



And for comic relief, in 2011 some real men brought these shiny things to the rally on the back of a truck:

I'm hoping to use said tent in complete satisfaction rather than anger, the Aldi version inspired mild annoyance but no anger, I must be getting mild mannered in my dotage ..

It has the advantage of being freestanding - in that you can pull the pegs and move the tent as a stand-up unit. It is similar in size and features to mine. Packed size is indicated as 430 x 140, so assume that the pole segment length is 430. If that length fits in your panniers you should be good to go.

Well made and good materials . The funny half cross poles are a bit of a trick to engage with the tabs but I managed .... practice will perfect my technique. It fits easily into my pannier cases .

No use in anger yet but quietly assembled on the camping site I keep at home for visitors with tents .

The green is restful unto my eyes, all in all I'm happy .

Recommended thus far.

The Alpine Rally was really good. Warm sunny days with frosty nights (including a -10C night. My water bottle froze inside my tent). I had to ride over some stretches of hard packed snow on the way there. Stay upright and keep moving is the mantra. Here's Brunhilde, chatting to another old work-horse ...

Another excuse to play with a camp fire.



Staying warm is just a matter of having the right stuff for the conditions. And a big fire.
Many of the Aussie eucalyptus trees burn to coals and not ash, making for top firewood.
The motorcyclist's campfire is a comedy theatre.

Minus 10c, apparently. I'll go with that.

I didn't go swimming anywhere, but several of the group I was with did go swimming at the Yarrangobilly thermal pool, about ten miles up the road. Water is 27c all year round, as it comes from underground.
