Well, that's nice, but we're talking about a liter class faired sport tourer, and I don't know where you're going to find that.

Even the Duc Scrambler, a very light bike, is 375 dry, and that's not a remotely comparable bike. If we aren't talking about comparable bikes, then why 380? Lets go for 200. The weight we are talking about with the RS is with all fluids including a full tank of gas. Just the gas is about 35 lbs.. Where exactly will we find this faired 100+ hp sport touring bike that's 380 lbs. full of fuel? Cause, I want one.

I thought Dougie is riding a Honda 250 or something these days.

Low maintenance Duc. A very nice bike, but certainly not comparable to an RS

BUT, they did make it into a more comparable bike: the Deauville - faired, bags, and 520 lbs dry with only a 700cc engine and 65 hp.

So, I think BMW did pretty well.

I'm still enjoying my 2013 KTM 990 SMT. Super Moto Touring, weight is 430 pds. They don't make anything like this anymore. I doubt and equal rider could stay with this bike on an RS. I was able to get a center stand from KTM, and enough accessories to make it good for touring. Engine is super charming, chassis and suspension are excellent IMO.

This would do me nicely but I know 2 of that model that have blown cooling systems within the 10 k km warranty period, KTM replaced the first happily then the next one also within the warranty period. The owner no longer owns a KTM.

I can understand the appeal of a new vinyl seat, and the new RS apparently has brakes, but why on earth would anyone buy a downgraded version of the real thing?

It's not an RS if it can't do that.

I have to confess there is one thing about an R100RS that is irreplaceable.

I think all the Euro brands have spotty reliability these days. The only problem I've had with the KTM is the plastic fuel tank has some powder in it from mold release. This causes the fuel filter to get packed up. KTM is going to seal coat the interior of the tank. It's been a PIA, but the performance of the machine is most entertaining.
