Isn't 27 mm the same size as the swing arm nut?

Make sure your bottom triple clamp is still tight while attempting with the ground socket, big breaker bar.

If te nut is the same size as the one on pre mono airheads, I use the big flat plate 'spanner' that BMW supply in the tool kits, and tap it with the side of a lump hammer,
Seems to work ok, don't do it against thefork stops and remove the fuel tank first!

36mm (I think 
) on an 81. Same as the steering head nut.
I use a long 1/2" drive socket that is taller than the steering damper actuating rod.
Use the right tool!

Uh, things are a little different for a monolever RT. The springs won't fly up upon removing the top nut. They are retained by a devilishily hard to remove circlip. I also have it in my mind that the top nuts are 41mm.
Thats some rare machine you have there Future. I've never seen a R100LT before.

Do not make the circlip assumption on all monos or you'll wind up hurt. Early ones like my '85 have the front springs compressed under the top nuts. Real fun to compress while putting it back together, too.

41mm for the spanner also rings a bell, and you need a 17mm allen key as well.
A socket doesn't allow you to hold things still with the allen key. (I use a large good quality adjustable.)
Torque = "tight-as-you-can-ft-lbs".

If you have access to a welder, a 17mm head bolt welded to a bit of pipe will make a cheap allen key.

I wont get to look at working on these nuts till I have stripped out all the old grout in the shower. Which I am doing at the mo.
