Yep, those early childhood traumas build character.... or phobias.

Re: Conflict of emotion
Know how you feel Jeff when you first hear the words "Dad, I'm going to get my M license and I'm going to get a road bike"
Both my boys are now avid motorcyclists and there's nothing more rewarding then when we do a trip together although those are more annual events now as they have other committmants too.
They paid for the mandatory motorcycling licensing program requirement and bought their own bikes but I qualify this as I did loan them a few bucks to close their deals.
Your son looks like a pretty confident rider on the RS! And you, like me, had taken them both on numerous trips 2 up. I think they learned a lot from those days about the "be aware" style I instilled in them. We had lots of conversations about why I did what in certain situations. They were good learners.
Once they were licensed was when I guess I was most apprehenve as they headed out on their own. My wife was a mess but as time rolled on we both realized they were good riders and were learning more as they rode.
We have had some great trips together and the most wonderful time is at the end of a good days ride, sitting around the campfire and enjoying it. You know what I'm talking about .
I always thought this was a big moment in their lives as well as mine...its a great way for them to mature and understand the responsibilities and respect that go with it...
Enough said, he looks damn comfortable confident on that machine...you'll have another great riding buddy there!
PS: Both my sons ended up oon old airhwads eventually...they can be fixed!

Retired from work....not life!
Re: Conflict of emotion
Thanks Moosehead, a reassuring post.
Taking the boys on trips has provided many a memorable moment.
As well as weekend trips, they've both had an extended trip of about ten days, camping mainly.
Jordans 10 day trip was a series of major breakdowns which I refused to give in to. Not one complaint from him.
It turned out to be one of our best trips with some major bonding achieved.
