Re: The October Boxerworks Forum rally--October 13-17, 2011
Hi Guys. It is getting close to rally time. And I'm looking forward to it.
I'm planning one slight change to the format, unless we get some folks who want to fix one of their favorite meals for the assembled rally goers. If somebody would like to prepare their favorite meal, let me know and I will assemble all the necessary ingredients, ready for you when you are ready for them.
Unfortunately Joan won't be at the rally. I saw her in Boise when she came to visit me and she's as hale and hearty and just as much fun to be around as ever. But her schedule is and has been too busy for her to devote the week or so that she would be out of action in Seattle. For those who may not already know, Joan has bought a sailboat and is heavily involved in her sailing club, having been appointed as the activities director, or some such title as that. That means, among other things, that she does a lot of work for those old salts that we have gotten used to getting at the rally.
The upshot is that it's too much for me to prepare meals as I did a couple times in the past. One problem is that I don't have much experience but also it takes me away from the rallying activities (or lack thereof) more than I prefer. So what I'm planning on doing is laying in steaks, pork chops, or anything that y'all might prefer and you (or your collective designee) will do the grillin'. I'll also have the usual salad fixins, deserts, and whatever else I think might make the meals attractive. (Suggestions are, of course, welcome.)
And as usual I will have breakfast and lunch fixins, which have already pretty much assumed a self-serve status.
And there will be the usual beers and soft drinks to keep y'all afloat.
Right now I'm still in Boise, and expect to be leaving for Oklahoma this coming Saturday. This will give me a couple days before the rally to make sure that the place has survived my absence, along with the heat and drought.
See you soon.
Ken

I HAVE TO CANCEL THE RALLY!!!
You all have my profound apologies. Here's what's going on:
I'm still in Boise, almost ready to head back to Big Cedar. But the day before yesterday I felt like I might be coming down with something. And it's getting worse, not better. And unfortunately it's already time for me to leave so I can get back home after a long absence and start the rally preparations.
This really hurts me to say it, but I think discretion may be the better part of valor here. I'm about 1,800 miles from home, which translates into 3 hard days of driving. And I don't want to be on the road even in the condition I'm in now.
I'm guessing that I have a virus of some stripe. The symptoms are of the usual virus type, achy muscles, headache, cough, perhaps a slight temperature, and a definitive lack of get up and go.
I am so sorry, first for skipping the rally in May and now cancelling out of this one.
Ken, feeling sorry for myself (and you all as well) in Boise

Too bad, Ken. Stay put and get well, and the sooner the better. With my unemployment situation and possible job chances I might miss out on if gone, I was leaning towards not making it up to the rally. So I guess now it's for sure I won't be making it. And big time too bad you and all the others too.
Get well soon, and that's an order!

Re: October Boxerworks Forum rally--CANCELLED
dang! Hope you get better quick, Ken! All maybe not lost yet. I'm 8.5 miles from Ar/Ok line, probably 25-30 from Ken's place. There's a State Park about 4 miles from me where 'The Chain Gang' holds a rally every year. Plenty of space for tents, includes showers and a fire pit [no individual fires]
It's located on the Talihena Scenic Drive, 56 miles long, country store has bfast and sandwich type lunches 2 miles. Mena about 12 miles, State Line bar [beer- wine coolers only]about 10 miles.
I just talked to 'Jack' reservations manager, we can get group rate if enough folks want to give it a shot. Here's their url:

I'll donate some firewood if any of y'all show up that Thurs or Fri and help me cut, split, load, haul it, lol. I'm walkin wounded yet from 16 day hospital stay in July.
