A points system will start with lower voltage than any electronic ignition.
As far as "running better" goes, there might be other problems that caused this. I had more trouble getting mine set-up properly at first but after that, no further adjustments. The initial adjustments took a LOT longer than just setting points!

Now on the front wheel, you can keep your drums and give me a couple 4-piston calipers on dual discs, TYVM.

NOW what i'm trying to do is add my stock points set back on my restored and newly equipped EME alt & ign. set up as an emergency back up just incase the new age stuff fails when I'm headed back to the 50th anniversary R90S rally i just returned from last week.
boy, it was 6700miles left coast to east coast and back and a fun ride.
