If you can get the plate out that has the HES's mounted on it, here's the way I found easiest to remove the old HES:

Use some wire cutters or small hacksaw blade to break the plastic near the two rivets. Remove the rest of the plastic around the rivets. Next use a Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut the rivets on their shanks. Don't tryu to drill the rivet out...it tough to find the right center and you may enlarge the hole for the rivets if you slip with the drill bit.

As far as replacements, I would use the Chen Yang BBHME301 sensor rather than the BBHME256 sensor ( the kind that looks to be installed in there ). The rivets on the 301 are easier to set than on the 256. I use a small rivvet setting tool that I used to rivet brake shoes with.

Also, this is the BBHME301 HES.

This is the lowest price I've found in the US. You can probably get one from Jaycar in AUS.

If spark is good, try a third of a bottle of Sea Foam.

Thanks Ray and ZM. I'm not thanking you Grant ya smartarse! ;)

I won't need to go further into the ignition setup if further longer testing today is all good. That's a great link Ray, as up until recently the only widely known source for the 301 HES was Jaycar Oz/NZ. Newark in NJ I think it was stopped selling the Siemans version a while back. I was distributing the 301 via ebay for about 18 months to needy riders. Jaycar is just down the road from me. They had 6 in store Friday and 1150 at the warehouse.

I've never seen seafoam here in Oz, but I might keep my eyes open a little wider next time I'm in an auto shop.

Good news Steve.
Without reading the entire thread again, what the deal with these Red Centre ignitions?
Who makes them?

Maybe they need three HES in there to be safe. ;)

John Olive in SE QLD. He also sells bits and pieces as Motorallyrider on ebay.
I think these are made in Taiwan by the Emerald Island bloke that makes a few airhead bits and pieces??? I suspect he also makes the Motorrad Electrik version too. Maybe it's a case of re-badging? The Red Centre does have the 2 HES version though, as well as the single.
