Thinking of branching out.

This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

Congratz on the KLR! Make sure if the dohickey has been replaced it was done properly. Fellow I know just had one wreck his engine due to a poor installation.

Probably needed... push rod seals x 4, left head gasket, sump gasket, new tyres for rwc. I'm guessing $1500 to get it up to snuff which includes rego.
Advert has gone. Presumed sold.
Still looking.

Todays considerations.
$10.6K, 32K kms. Too many $.

Image
$8.4K, 52K kms. Grant likes this one.
Image
2001 R1100S $5.5K, 63K kms. Might be around $5K as the seller would need to take the day off to get a rwc..which I could get easy enough. It's a big day out to go and see.
Image
1/2005 K1200S, 52.6K km, asking $6990. Full service history, last service @ $1800 included new tyres, final drive recall update & a minor service, done by local blokes I know. 6 mths rego. Timing chain update done. NO panniers. Some negotiation probable. Local to me. Looks fine...except the yellow!
ImageThen there's the issue of servo assisted linked abs. It has a reputation for failure and a $3500 replacement cost.

Black and yellow looks best on a GS.

More info. The abs up to '06 can cost >$3K to fix if it fails. It's an internal fault not related to poor fluid maintenance. If it fails brakes are lost..can't be turned off. Apparently this is a big cause of crashing, but BMW turn away from the issue. The system was updated after 2006 I believe.
The 60K km service for a K1200s is $1000 or so, every 30K km. I'm guessing I can do a lot of the peripheral stuff myself, but the valves might be beyond me, well it would be now, maybe not with some lurnin'.

I think it's any servo assisted linked abs up to 2007. I would stand corrected. I'm still investigating.
