That wheel cracked but didn't break into two pieces. The wheel was cut into two pieces to reveal information about why it cracked. I'd like to see a clear close up of the cracks.

From the poor picture, I think I can see beachhead marks on the hub spoke at the 6:00 position. That would make sense as the crack could have started on one of the flat surfaces and as the hub tries to rotate relative to the outside rim, the crack would progress through the spoke. The spokes are less likely to bend out of plane due to the cross sectional stiffness. That's why they added the webbing where they did.

I still can't tell from the pics and it doesn't matter because a precise report of the failure would be out there somewhere so I can only guess.
Was it a single event that took out four spokes? Just fatigue cracks that were not through? What do the intact spokes look like at the same point? What does the cracked surface tell about the failure's origins and progression?
And it still doensn't matter 'cause I got reinforcement!
