Pix to come, but I unhibernated the bike today. Replaced needles, needle jets, floats and float needles. Put the battery in, opened the taps, and 12.2V was plenty to bring it to life! Should get out and about tomorrow, for a quick ride with tools in pockets.

Pix! But not much to see.

Had me a little bag from Hucky:

And went about replacing the bits:

It looked to me like the old needle jet was looser around the needle than the new needle jet, but it was nothing I could put a solid measurement to. And it sure didn't photograph. Also, the old floats felt a wee spot heavier, but again nothing I could measure. I thought about going three doors down to the dope grower to see if he had a gram scale, but he deals in ounces and pounds with his product.

I wrassled the battery into place, not as much work as you might think. The AGM battery I got can fit through the subframe from the top! No disassembling the clamshell for me.

I'm planning to get out for a bit tomorrow with some tools in my pockets, including the ShortMeisters. If the weather holds, I'll be riding Hwy 1 to SF on Monday!

That was a little-known option in the 70's, called The Hang-Off Seat. Only good for right turns, though. :D

Ya, left turns would be a bitch.

Perhaps Corbin could make a custom seat with a AGM battery relief cutout.

The battery is sitting properly in its tray, thankyouverymuch. And it spun the motor over as I sat astride the bike in my ATGATT and we went for a ride today.

Now if I were scientific, I'd have changed one part of the carburetor at a time, tuned it, and run a whole tank of gas and seen results and reported back. And then the next thing. But no, I did it all in one shot, so I can't confirm that any one thing was responsible for curing the fat burble it had at cruising (cruise missile, not pirate cruiser) speed. But it appears cured, and we'll see if mileage is improved from the 35ish it was getting last year.
