Ah, GS. I missed this post along the way. Yep, got a lovely clean reconditioned gearbox to go in. The input shaft looks as-new. The lovely clean aspect is a bit troubling. It means I might have to clean up some hard-won patina or wait until the gearbox develops its own. Life is full of compromises.

Hullo Grant. I'm meeting Hans (Ontic) ** in Melburg and we are heading for a shack on a property about 30kms from Jindabyne, going the pretty way. Hoping to do the Barry Way from Omeo, and camp at Mckillops Bridge on the Snowy River for a bit of fishing. I wonder why they call it the Snowy River?

We are allowing two weeks for a bit of exploring around the high country. We might be coming through your neck of the woods, in which case we'll drop in and drink all your beer. The weather pattern is looking pretty good for the weekend. Good drop of rain, eh?

** Remember the 'Adventure with New Recruit' thread last October, when the fekkin' Magna blew up? We've been wanting to have another adventure and this is Hans's first big away-from-home ride on The Princess.

Call ahead so that they can get extra beer and then you can have one (several) in memory of us stateside guys.

Well, even with all the gory mechanical work you have had to do you are far ahead of me in preparations Charlie.
Final day of but-breaking work today, and tomorrow will be a very full day of ticking off items on my many to-do-lists.

One thing I have done, and a very important thing at that, is located another bottle of that lovely single malt Glenmorangie that did us so well during the Magna rebuild. Rather than being covered in grease sleeping in a in red-neck-SW-Sydney wreckers car-park, this time it will be nice to enjoy the stuff around the roaring fire in Jindy eh? Oh yeah, and when we are fishing for trout on the snowy river.

Anyway, I'm getting excited. I'm not quite sure how I am going to get everything done in time without managing to forget something significant, but I am sure it will come together.

Mc killops bridge is a must see if your in that area. It was the centre of the universe for me when in my early twenties.
Back then it was 'legal' to camp near the bridge. Now the parks '*uckers' make people camp a kilometre or so away.
The bridge is about 80-90 ft above the river and is 257 metres long from memory.

The Snowy is really full at the moment, and the spectacular snowfalls up in the hills will mean good river flows for all the western rivers. It is starting to feel as though the drought might have broken, if only for this year. A full Lake Hume is on the menu - it backs up to within a few kms of Jingellic and the waterbirds gather. Something to really look forward to.
