That's a remarkable result Charlie ! I've got too many jobs on right now but that is very much worth doing when the time is available ....working out how to wire it in will be a true test for me !!!!!!!! .

I've still not wired my two on the KTM in... need to find a working multimeter first.

I'm going to follow the wiring diagram on the thread over in ADV... in the vendors section. The diagram is on about page 22 plus or minus a couple. I bought the dimmer switch from the US (via ebay) and will run them dimmed on low beam and full power on high.

I agree about the small mounting bolt... although I locktited mine on. I also bored the mounting hole out to suit the 8mm bolt on my Barkbusters.

Yep, that headlight is looking very fine indeed! Were the mounting brackets from the same bike?

Ian, I'm not sure about the dimmer idea. For high beam they need to be pointing pretty much at the same height as your normal high beam, which would make them too high for low beam. As you would know, the light pattern is a regular circle, with no top cut-off, so they would be pointing directly into the eyes of oncoming drivers - even in a dimmed state this would not be an ideal situation since you would be inviting them to 'flash' you and that can be painful.

Re the mounting bracket and bolt - I'm thinking that it may be necessary to adjust up and down according to load, and I'm sure I'll want to adjust them in and out occasionally - wide for the mountains, narrow for the flat country - so I'm putting some thought into designing a simple (but of course, elegant) bracket arrangement.

If the result is some little BMWs that would be fine. If any of them loud-pipe Hardlies start sniffing around I'll be taking a shifter to their fekkin' axle nuts.

Thanks Tim. I made the clamps and brackets from some scrounged stainless from a local factory that makes 'defense' equipment. (I like to think of it as 'swords to ploughshares').



This pic was taken before I fitted the spots and moved the light down the tubes a bit - she looked uncharacteristically 'haughty' with them at the tops of the tubes. The indicators are held down by a rubber strip squished with a hose clamp. There are a couple of pop rivets to stop them from spinning around.

You know I have always liked your slashfives. There is something really nice about the elliptical headlight bucket. As a friend said when he sat on Brun yesterday, "It's like riding around on a headlight!"

ps: The slashsix bucket looks like something Darth Vader would wear to protect his testicles.

I agree Charlie , they would have to point downward and maybe dim as well .Some cunning bracket might do it but a second set with the dimmer permanently on pointing down a bit would be the easiest way .Maybe an independent 2 position switch ?

Having done my trade using stainless steel I can say that those headlamp brackets are the bee's knees Charley. Well done mate.

It's interesting how we use our skills Ross , I'd make up a pattern and cast it in aluminium ..... just because I know how ! I can't weld stainless .
