High speed wobble

Did the wobble start after the new tires? Do you have another bike you can borrow a front wheel/tire from?

Yes. If the steering bearings don't fix it, I will lean on Randy to loan me his.

All test riding must be done with no accessories attached.

How does this help? If it wabbels with bags and not without I am not much closer to finding a solution. The problem is with the bike, not the bags. History and simple observation tells me that. It didn't wobble for most of its miles with the same bags and more load.

Especially be suspicious of the tire if it is one you haven't used before. If it is a cheap brand, that's another good indicator.

You know, that's my thoughts too ZM, as I talked about earlier in the thread. I see Brad's best move right now as to arm wrestle or otherwise manage to convince Randy to loan him a wheel and tire from a 'known good' bike for a while. That would yield a definitive result if the wobble goes away with a different tire and wheel.

I guess that will be the next step, if, when Brad gets it back from the shop with new steering head bearings, it is still funky.

Not freezing, just drizzly and cold. It warmed up to a balmy 60 degrees today with clouds. I paddled my canoe this morning and in a few minutes will leave for the shop on my wobbly R/90.

The tires are new. The trip to Big Bend (hey Randy - where is the picture post) was the first on the front and the first with packs and high speeds on the back. They are not cheap and are a matched set of Bridgestones. I will be pissed it that is the cause.

Brad, the tire that caused my bike to wobble was a cheapie I bought from a BMW dealer. I had put the bike together from the frame up and I knew the steering bearings were OK and the fork was all "Aushermanned" so I was actually relieved that it was just a couple hundee to get a new top brand tire, mounting and balancing. Best part; it fixed the problem. Thing is, it was from an independent shop. I like that part but the owner is into Harleys (and golf). I didn't mention my disdain for his loud Hog but wished him good luck on his golf game. The next day, I stopped by to pick up some parts his low man on the totem pole had left off my wheel and he got all suspicious of what the young lad and I may be up to. (He must have a very vivid imagination!) I'll just say that he was a dick in his approach and it sealed my instinct that his was not the shop I would return to.

Since you bought good brand tires, if it is your tire, you may have recourse. Really, I was relieved the rest of the bike was OK and it was the tire. In my case, it was the easiest and cheapest problem it could have been. Cheers.

And, you can get a bad tire from the best manufacturers and models too. I think it's far less frequent, but there's certainly no one that's immune.
