Just some things to thing about.

The ideal timing for a twin plugged bike is around 28 degrees fully advanced and at stock at idle. The only easy way to get this is by using one of the electronic systems.

If you are thinking of running points for any length of time with the twin plug set up, you should use a points booster, made by Dyna and Boyer, otherwise the extra current generated by the dual plug set up will burn the points fairly quickly.

interferencefit, it sounds like you've learned a LOT from this. Ride a while and get those rings seated well so as to not spoil the rest of your rebuild.
When the new BOYER kit comes, resist the urge to install it as then you'll want to see how fast you can go, and you really want to give the rings/cyl walls all the time they need.
Amazing what a few thousands of misalignment in the points can do, isn't it?

Jean wrote:In another earlier post we discussed various replacement points not being exactly the same as the OEM points...different length of moving arm, a tiny bit of difference in the location of the pivot. Not big things but enough to mess you up when you try to set the proper gap with the OEM points plate and the original "tuning-slot".
Please keep THIS in mind.
As some of you know, I am clearing out my BMW parts. Many are NOS and I just sold two sets of new points from the early 70s. They sold for almost nothing and I was surprised. I assumed that those of you who know the problems with some of the current points would have jumped on this item on eBay. Not so.

Another sale that surprised me was a low mileage straight forks for the R90/6, but would fit on many years of bike. The two tubes and lower clamp (triple tree) only brought $45. The two tubes alone would cost nearly $400 new, or so I have been told. Back in the day, I would have bought it just for a spare.

Obviously the serious riders already have plenty of good parts saved up. That is the way to go.

It's not me! They are around, Duane. We're talking about the Kiamichi Wood Nymphs here. They're not shy when they get to know you. But they are very selective who they show themselves to. Evidently they like me, but not my acquaintances.

Be careful what you ask for. The nymphs can be very demanding when they find somebody they like. But so far they only seem to like me.

Help!

Has anybody done a study of the tendency to become delusional from living out in the woods?

I dunno, but if we find such a person perhaps we could also get them to conduct a study of contra sexual alter egos. :D
