Gidday,

Kinda a shame now to lay some black paint on them??

Hydroblasted, lightly sanded out a few scratches then highly buffed the four horizontal sections on each :o

Gidday,

Got home from work this afternoon and pulled the final drive and then the gearbox off the bike, I wanted to re grease the clutch/tranny spline since I was nearly there anyway with everything off the bike as it sat on the lift, to easy!!

The splines were dry looking but I thought not in to bad a shape, but I will leave that up to you experts to guide me there please? just clean and add the honda moly after looking at these??

I've cleaned up the gearbox, degreased all underneath the bike and wiped out as best I could without spraying any degreaser around the bottom of the clutch housing itself, (the clutch pic here is as it was when I first removed the gearbox)

Any guidance here would be helpful as to what to look for...

Also on a lighter note today I got my small signage brushes out and laid some blue paint over the old faded red RS text which now matches the engine badges..

Gidday,

Yes a little lucky there Jeff with the splines :D and no clunking or excessive movement in the drive which is a bonus also.

Gidday,

If I have one sore point that just keeps picking away at the back of my greying noggin that's to do with this newly acquired RS, and yes I thought about it a little before I brought it as I sat and stared and admired the two tone red livery long and hard with glazed eyes over the 3 or 4 grainy internet pix, but more so now at home in the flesh because I cannot rectify the fault cheaply with what tools I have hanging out in the resto shed or experiences I have notched under my belt, I cannot polish it out or reshape it easily  Have ya guessed it by now?? well it is that bloody ugly blended paint band going down the centre of the tank that just should not be there and sticks out like dog balls to the trained seasoned observer and I wonder what the f$%k the spraypainting man was thinking??

Ok, look I know it is probably not that bad in the bigger scheme of things, but I do like to keep things as original as I can and I repaint at this stage is a no go, but maybe just maybe one day this bike will appear in that lovely gold colour which has always caught my eye but at the moment it is not to be...

My suggestion is a plain black tank cover, but not a new one as the bike is aged and chipped so I was wondering if anyone had a spare, hanging unused which needs a dusting off and set free to see the light of day again, a used one to suit the patina of my bike, I would pay a fair price as I am not after a freebie.... :?:

Great chatting again... Now it is back to the shed..

I've seen pleated pleather type covers that just run down the center of the tank - they must be stick on of some sort. That would fix that problem perfectly.

Straps & buckles, I would think. Like I've seen on old European/British cafe bikes?
I'd be willing to bet that Charlie could whip something out with his sewing machine...

Gidday,

many thanks fellas, yes a good few options there to chew over and last week I just brought a lovely Aldi magnetic tank bag AGAIN!!, I gave the other away which I found in the cupboard about six months ago as my K1100 has an aluminium tank..
