G'day Ross. I see you've been getting some good advice. You may already have solid mounts on your diode board, being a later model. It'll only take a few minutes to pop the front cover off and find out. The rubber mounts issued on earlier models were problematic.

By the way, Super Cheap Auto has very good ratchet-type terminal crimpers for about $17. Buying them and getting a range of terminals (cheaper from a good auto electrician) might start you down the path of embracing the mysteries of boxer electrics.

The mounts are rubber. I had to replace some when I did the engine swap. I had toyed with getting solid ones now I can stop toying. I think I have one of those Super Cheap crimpers.

Just did the earth addon described in this thread. I have noticed that as soon as i turn the key to on the volt metre now reads just over 12 volts and not below. Thanks all for the heads up on this.

To give an idea of how these work as daytime running lights, here they are on my bike (2nd bike down the hill). I actually run with the headlight off and just the LEDs on a fair bit. These are legal (I believe) wired up this way. They can be switched off, they are dimmed to an acceptable level on low beam and switch to full strength only on high beam. This is low beam.

To update this thread, I've put 25,000km on the bike in the last 12 months.... 30,000 since the lights went on. One of the lights died due to water ingress, the other one is still working. The dimmer switch isn't working properly any more and I've just angled the light down a bit. The conditions have been as tough as you could get... Cape York, Timor-Leste, Sumatra, etc.

I'd buy and install the same setup again. People see me in the daylight and I see things at night.
